Medical Imaging encompasses different imaging modalities and processes to image the human body for diagnostic and treatment purposes and therefore plays an important role in the healthcare for all population groups. Medical imaging is also frequently being relied on for the follow-up of disease progression and treatment monitoring. This Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Hons) programme offered through Open & Distance Learning (ODL) is ideal for working adults and those who seek greater flexibility in their study.
Students will immerse themselves in the study of human anatomy and physiology, general pathology, radiation physics, medical radiation, x-ray techniques, clinical radiography, regional and sectional biography for medical imaging, digital vascular imaging, mammography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, imaging pathology, medical radiation science, radiation safety and biology, radiation safety standards and procedures, radiographic practice, image interpretation, health and statistics, and professional practice.
The teaching methods include lecture and tutorial sessions on the e-learning platform. Self–instructional materials will be uploaded to the online forum prior to lecture or tutorial sessions. Integrative teaching approaches through discussion and seminars will be held through this online platform. Lecturers will facilitate learning through the use of various teaching tools including case scenarios. Practical sessions will be conducted through face-to-face teaching where hands–on skills can be mastered.. For diploma graduates, credit transfer is allowed with the mapping of their studied modules to the programme.
CRITICAL PROBLEM STATEMENT
According to UK Office for National Statistics in 2019, Medical Radiographers are among the few professions that are at low risk of job automation in the future. Therefore, we can infer that there will be a continued stable job demand for graduated of this programme.

Radiographers are among the frontliners in any healthcare setting and this was evident in the global combat against the COVID-19 pandemic. Chest X-Ray, Chest computed tomography ( Chest CT), lung ultrasound as well as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays a crucial role in the management of COVID-19.
As the world is changing with the 4th Industrial Revolution, the medical imaging field is also evolving rapidly. In fact, medical imaging is widely considered the fastest technologically evolving health care field. This programme would be ideal for those who are interested in technological advancements such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and their application in healthcare The trend of integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning in various medical imaging modalities is gaining momentum. It is not only pushing the boundaries for better quality imaging for better diagnostic accuracy that leads to better streamlining of the work flow and patient management.
